Hello, everyone!
On Monday, MM held a session on Taize. This session was quite significantly different from the typical input session that we carry out. Michelle started us off with an interesting story about the brief history of Taize, complete with colourful pictures to hold our attention. Des followed that by taking us through a Taize session.. and that, I believe, was quite a new and refreshing experience for the few of us gathered there. Candles were laid out in a cross, and the lights were turned off so that we could establish a suitable setting.
The purpose of Taize is to maintain a reflective mood and periods of complete silence. That, coupled with the the meditative repetition of a short tune, helps us to focus on God and to listen to what He has to say to us. The beauty of a Taize session lies in the fact that that one simple tune can mean different things to every individual, but still ultimately lead us to the same thing.. God. Des shared about how people who speak different languages can sing the same song together in their respective native language, and at the same time experience something totally personal. Beautiful!
The session was short but powerful in its special way. Thank Mich and Des for taking us through it!
And here are the session notes and colourful powerpoint slides:
